Essential Tips for Maximum Holding Force

To achieve the maximum holding force from your ferrite pot magnet, direct and flat contact with the metallic substrate is required. Any gap – such as an air gap, thick paint layers, powder coatings, or surface roughness – will significantly reduce the effective holding force. Furthermore, the thickness of the counterplate plays a critical role; if the steel plate is too thin, magnetic saturation occurs, leading to a drop in holding force.

Please note the difference between holding force and shear force: The holding force is measured perpendicular to the surface (horizontal application, e.g., on a ceiling). If you mount the magnet vertically on a wall, the shear force (sliding force) applies. Due to gravity and the friction coefficient, this force is considerably lower.
