Why choose flat ferrite pot magnets?

Flat ferrite pot magnets (also known as shallow pot magnets or smooth magnetic systems without threaded bush) are essential components in the furniture industry, exhibition stand construction, shopfitting, installation engineering, and point-of-sale display manufacturing. Due to their completely smooth and closed construction, these magnets can be countersunk flush and invisibly into wooden panels, plastics, or metal frames. They provide the ideal solution for securing items permanently, yet allowing them to be replaced quickly and easily.

Optimal Assembly: Flat magnets for adhesive fixing

When screwing or drilling is not an option due to structural or aesthetic requirements, gluing provides the ultimate solution. By placing the flat ferrite pot magnet into an accurately fitting recess or borehole and fixing it with a high-strength structural adhesive, you create an incredibly stable, hidden connection. This makes the system uniquely suited for minimalist design furniture, clamping setups, commercial retail displays, and high-volume industrial assembly lines.

The pot magnet principle with ferrite

A raw, standalone ferrite magnet radiates its magnetic field in all directions, losing a substantial amount of its strength along the back and sides. In a pot magnet system, the ferrite core is encapsulated inside a zinc-coated steel cup. This housing redirects the magnetic flux, concentrating the entire pulling force onto the exposed, active front face. This maximizes the holding power upon direct contact with a steel counterface and protects the brittle ceramic magnet core from mechanical shocks.

Important application note: The stated holding force is measured perpendicular to a thick steel plate. Factors such as an air gap (caused by paint, coatings, or surface roughness) or an insufficient thickness of the counterplate will drastically reduce the force. For vertical wall mounting, shear force occurs, which is significantly lower than the perpendicular holding force.

Although neodymium systems offer higher holding forces for the same dimensions, ferrite pot magnets deliver unique technical and financial benefits:
