Essential Tips for Optimal Holding Force

To achieve the maximum holding force from your ferrite pot magnet, direct and flush contact with the metallic surface is required. Any form of distance – such as an air gap, a thick layer of paint, powder coating, or a rough surface – will significantly reduce the effective holding power. Furthermore, the thickness of the counterpart plays a critical role; if the steel plate is too thin, magnetic saturation occurs, causing the holding force to drop.

Please note the difference between holding force and shear force: The holding force is measured perpendicular to the surface (horizontal use, e.g., on a ceiling). If you apply the magnet vertically to a wall, the shear force (lateral force) is the deciding factor. Due to gravity and friction coefficients, this force is considerably lower. For vertical wall mounting, we recommend our Rubber-coated neodymium magnet systems for enhanced grip.
