How do neodymium rubber-coated magnets work?

These rubber-coated magnets consist of several powerful neodymium magnet discs (or a single magnet for smaller diameters) positioned on a steel base plate. The entire system is encased in a high-quality rubber coating made of Santoprene©, available in both black and white. Compared to standard metal pot magnets, these rubber-coated magnet systems are much flatter, allowing them to be mounted very discreetly and inconspicuously.

For maximum effectiveness, the magnet must be placed directly against a metal surface. Any air gap — caused by thick textured paint or a rough surface, for example — will significantly reduce the effective holding force. Thanks to their unique design, however, these rubber-wrapped magnets are exceptionally well-suited for mounting on thinner sheet metal, such as car roofs, bodywork, or steel office furniture. The soft rubber ensures that no scratches or damages occur on your valuable surfaces.

Holding Force versus Shear Force

Holding Force (perpendicular measurement): The full holding force indicated on the website is guaranteed when the ferromagnetic counterpart is completely flat, clean, and thick enough. This value is always measured at a right angle (90 degrees) to the surface, which is ideal for mounting on items like a steel ceiling.

Shear Force (vertical use): When mounting a magnet on a wall, vertical load (shearing) occurs. While a standard metal magnet will slide easily due to the smooth steel-on-steel contact, the displacement force (shear force) of these rubber-coated magnet systems is exceptionally high. Various Configurations for Any Mounting Style

We supply systems with an internally threaded bush, variants with an externally threaded stud, versions with a countersunk through-hole, and special rectangular magnet systems. Weather Resistance and Non-Magnetic Surfaces

Corrosion Prevention: The rubber coating effectively protects the internal neodymium magnets from splashing water and moisture. Although this makes them well-suited for temporary outdoor use, prolonged exposure to the elements can eventually lead to some rust formation. For applications that must remain guaranteed 100% rust-free, we recommend switching to our ferrite magnets.

Mounting on Wood, Plastic, or Drywall: If the desired mounting wall is non-magnetic, you can easily make it locally magnetic by placing a metal counterpart. For this purpose, we offer a wide range of metal counterplates and strike plates. These are available as metal discs with a countersunk screw hole or in a practical self-adhesive version without a hole.
